Dr. Salvador Abrams has been practicing medicine for 37 years with a specialty in Emergency Medicine. Still practicing in San Antonio, Dr. Abrams oversees the medical operations for Tejas Urgent Care as well as 3 other facilities in the San Antonio Area.
Al Lewis, PA-C, MPAS, L.P.
Alan Lewis is a Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) that has been in the field of medicine for almost 30 years. Alan has experience running multiple clinics as the sole medical provider and has coordinated efforts with local EMS in the rural communities where he provided medical care. He has also served as the Assistant Medical Director of Pecos County EMS as well as a volunteer fire fighter before relocating with his wife and two teenage children to the Groesbeck area.
Alan is a Licensed Paramedic and has worked as a Paramedic in Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, as well as here in Texas. He is part of an Elite Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAl) for the Federal Government which deploys to terrorist attacks as well as natural disasters. Alan holds a position on the Texas Medical Board (TMBJ as an Expert Consultant and has been an instructor in many advanced medical courses, a Paramedic field trainer, preceptor and a Physician Assistant preceptor. He has been awarded numerous lifesaving awards and many career related honors.
Brian Johnson has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. As a former member of the United States Navy and United States Air Force and a Mexia resident for 11 years, Brian Johnson has been a valued member and medical practitioner of the community and our country.
Joel Kay, FNP, graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2001 and then received his Masters Degree in Nursing with a focus in Family/Emergency Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Alabama in 2010.
With a long storied career in various Emergency Departments, Mr. Kay has had the opportunity to service the San Antonio Community since 2001 and now the Tri-County area.
Mr. Kay is Nationally Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. He is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Mr. Kay takes pride in his patient-focused and customer service approach to healthcare and is excited to bring this philosophy to Tejas Urgent Care.
James Ryman M. D. joined Tejas Urgent Care in 2015. Dr. Ryman was born in Mexia and raised in Hubbard. He graduated from college at Howard Payne University in 1992 where he studied chemistry and played varsity football. After college, he taught high school science and coached football at several schools in Texas including Corsicana Mildred, Sugar Land Clements, Italy, and Hardin-Simmons University where he obtained his Master’s Degree in 1999. He began medical school at University of Texas at Houston in 2000 where he studied under Dr. James H. “Red” Duke. He graduated from medical school in 2004 and completed residency at University of Texas Health Center- Tyler in 2007 which was followed by a one year fellowship in emergency medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has worked in hospital emergency departments throughout Texas since 2008. In 1997, he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Kuykendall. They currently reside in Hubbard with their two boys, M. J. who is 12 and Jesse who is 10. They are members of the First Baptist Church where they are active in children’s activities and coach several youth sports teams.
